Polished Concrete Floors Look Great
♫ Monday, January 3rd, 2011It was the only place you can see the concrete floor without some sort of cover in areas where industrial, garage, or may be an unfinished basement. People used to think that the concrete floor looks cheap, like you can not afford to carpet or cover up another one. Has changed recently as more and more people realize that a polished concrete floor will be very good indeed. Combined with detailed carving and you can actually have a very artful look on your floor.
One of the drivers behind the polished floor covered with carpet instead of tile or is the current use of home heating system embedded in the floor. These systems pump hot water to all ground floor rooms of the house and therefore the heat from the bottom up. This is the most effective way of heat because heat rises, so you do not need to add more energy to heat the air to get toasty floor. Instead, the floor heating system to increase the room temperature level first and then move through the house warming heats the rest.
If you are thinking about a polished concrete floor then your first choice will be whether or not you stain the floor. The polishing will work the same, but you can choose to either keep the traditional gray color or change it up with some other color you choose. Be aware though, if you stain the floor and then polish it you will have to remove the polishing and grind the concrete to get the stain back off if you change your mind later. So really think about whether you can stand to live with that blue or red floor for the next several years.
Another option to think about is etching. This process involves removing the cement binder from the very top layer of the concrete which exposes the aggregate (rock) underneath. You can choose to do your entire floor this way or just etch the border or a design in the middle. Whichever way you choose to go, this will add a lot of character to the floor.
A polished concrete used as walls, counter tops, and even furniture. You might think that one or two walls in your living room with exposed concrete will look really cheap but in reality point to the right it can look very luxurious. Concrete counter tops are also becoming more popular as people realize they are much cheaper than granite, but can actually add a nice touch in the kitchen.
